It felt like this, at Barrington Tops -
Like pushing my head through
the invisible skin between the earth
and the Milky Way, between night and day -
A glimpse of wonderment that seemed lost
forever in a parallel realm , a year ago .
Through the night an awesome presence
electrified the peaceful haven.
Lightning arced in shattering light-rainbows
across the valley, an awsome affirmation of spirit ,
silhouetting the smallness of the material world
in the black lace trace of the treetops.
No rain, little thunder, the storm dissolved
into the rosy dawn and drifted upwards
into the heavens on gossamer wisps of bridal veil
and a chorus of tuis and bellbirds piping it to rest.
Thank you, Helen,
for taking me there.
